Capsule Geology

The M occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1740 metres on a steep south-facing slope, north of Lang Creek and approximately 4.5 kilometres due south of the former mining town of Cassiar.

Regionally, the area is underlain by quartz arenite sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cambrian Boya Formation (Atan Group), limestone, marble and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cambrian Rosella Formation (Atan Group), limestone, slate, siltstone and argillite of the Ordovician to Silurian Road River Group and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the McDame Group. Granitic intrusive rocks of the Lower Cretaceous Cassiar Batholith are exposed to the west.

Locally, molybdenum mineralization occurs in quartz monzonite of the Lower Cretaceous Cassiar Batholith adjacent to a contact with Lower Cambrian Atan Group hornfels. The contact strikes approximately northwest. Molybdenum occurs as disseminations and fine-grained fracture fillings with sericite, pyrite, gypsum, quartz and fluorite. The fractures strike east and dip gently north. A small garnet-diopside, garnet-actinolite skarn, with trace scheelite in quartz veinlets, occurs northeast of the contact in Atan Group hornfels.

A zone of banded magnetite has been identified several hundred metres east of the M occurrence. Another zone of skarn mineralization, referred to as the Brown Spot zone, is reported 400 metres north-northwest of the M zone occurrence.

Past drilling (unknown date) on the M zone indicated mineralization in quantities of less than 0.1 per cent molybdenite, though one hole assayed 0.23 per cent molybdenite over 5 metres (Assessment Report 7912).

In 2002, sampling of the Brown Spot zone yielded 1.0 per cent lead, 1.3 per cent zinc and 59 grams per tonne silver, whereas chip samples from the M zone yielded up to 1.5 per cent tungsten, 0.05 per cent tin and 0.2 per cent copper over 1.5 metres (Assessment Report 27203).

Work History

In 1959, Kenneco Explorations (Western) Ltd. conducted geological, soil geochemical and geophysical surveys on the property referred to at the time as the Canada Girl claims. Also at this time, Totem Minerals Inc. completed a 238.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Vines claims. In 1969, Chapparal Mines Ltd. and Coast Silver Mines Ltd. completed a 486.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area.

In 1979, exploration by Shell Canada Resources Limited on its Cassiar project claims comprised detailed geological mapping, prospecting of all known showings, and sampling of all mineralized sections from past drilling for tin. Pan concentrate and stream silt samples were taken in all drainages at 50-metre contour intervals for a total of 360 samples.

In 1980 and 1981, Shell Canada Resources Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and ground geophysical (magnetic, electromagnetic and induced polarization) surveys on the area.

During 1998 through 2005, Eveready Resources Corporation completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and trenching on the area as the Cassiar property. Later in 2005, Velocity Resources Inc. optioned the property from Eveready and completed prospecting, data verification and technical studies. In 2006, Columbia Yukon Explorations Inc. negotiated, and entered into a formal option agreement with Eveready Resources Inc. with respect to the Storie property.

During 2006 through 2010, Columbia Yukon Explorations Inc. completed extensive programs of drilling on the property and a complete exploration summary for this time can be found in the Storie (MINFILE 104P 069) occurrence. In 2014, BC Moly Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping on the Storie property.
